There seems to be an aggressive culture inside America’s mainstream media that wants to see masculinity vanish. Where is the concern for the decline of good masculine men? Black men are particularly targeted by the media. Why doesn’t the media provide adequate coverage for women who adore masculine men as well as value the ideas that drive their personas?
In contrast, do we see the media aggressively condemning a woman’s “femininity” and/or encouraging them to look and act more masculine? I don’t think so. Needless to say, it seems the media has often participated in strategies to deglamorize Black women and/or create “jolie-laide” images of them, resulting in denigrations and mockery behind closed doors.
In my humble opinion, there’s been a protracted, hidden agenda by America’s media to mentally enfeeble and emasculate morally sound masculine men. It especially pertains to Black men. If Black people don’t pay closer attention to what the media is doing and start aggressively speaking out against it, an overwhelming number of heterosexual masculine Black men with good intentions will be unfairly targeted and methodically reduced to overzealous specimens of toxic masculinity. There will be less baby-making and more young boys who are interested in wearing women’s dresses than assuming roles that will prepare them for navigating the hardships and complexities of a challenging world society. Of course, no offense to our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. I’m merely expressing my grave concerns about America’s media that have dishonored local Black communities and the Black diaspora for several decades.
In closing, I’d strongly encourage young people not to be stooges for the media. The media has the propensity to get into your heads and wreak havoc on your better angels. It’s a highly intrusive industry that has lost sight of its moral compass and, in recent years, has purged powerful and critical Black voices from its news anchor seats. Most importantly, it is an industry that has seriously degraded its own public trust. Greed and being a puppet for the highest bidder have long corrupted our nation’s mainstream media.
