“Woke” is not a fad at all. It’s a critical
component to the ways of our democracy.
In terms of practicality, “diversity” without equity and inclusion would be no more successful than racism absent one group asserting its racial superiority over another. Any expectations or leadership advice to the contrary would be a distortion of the truth. It’s a logic that applies to corporations, the military, or nations endeavoring to use diversity as a cornerstone for fairness or a pillar of democracy. There are few alternatives (if any) to good leadership. For centuries and decades, under America’s “so-called” system of democracy, Negroes, for the most part, have made a strong contribution to the benefits of diversity but have been severely shortchanged on equity and inclusion. The truth always matters.
