We know that Black History is American History. But did you know the blue color of denim jeans can be traced back to the expertise of American slaves and the “Negro Cloth” that they wore? That’s right—although Levi Strauss & Co. gets the credit for popularizing America’s denim jeans, it was the American slave that laid the foundation for their color due to their special skills in processing the indigo plant. Hence, the blue hue of denim jeans is squarely rooted in American slavery.
