How many times does this have to be said? The media is not our friend, even when we believe it is. To the contrary, the media is a close friend of anyone’s wealth and misfortunes in that it thrives on tracking money wherever its immediacy provides a news story or increases its bottom line. Likewise, the media is a friend of any power or influence an individual might have, largely because it seeks to harness those attributes in order to accentuate its own popularity, narratives, and storytelling. Metaphorically speaking, the media is a parasite on the citizenry it serves.
