For me, “self-made” would mean that to have become a rich or wealthy individual, he or she didn’t rely on anyone to help build their fortune. He or she didn’t rely on anyone for advice. He or she was totally self-sufficient, perhaps rising from a status of destitution to that of a filthy rich individual. So, since the birth of capitalism, do we really know any self-made millionaires and billionaires who walked their journeys alone? It’s time to re-imagine the notion of anyone being self-made.
