The mainstream media is not verbally tough enough on America’s racism. Following President Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address, I’d be more interested in what Joy Reid and Katie Phang had to say about the speech’s delivery than the mainstream media’s political pillow talk. The media appear to have downplayed Trump’s disturbingly divisive demeanor and the speech’s incredibly racist undertones. Through the strategic elimination of targeted federal jobs as well as the purging of powerful Black voices that occupied highly visible news anchor seats, Black political power continues to be gravely diminished. Political pillow talk doesn’t work well against culture wars and racism. What will work are powerful voices that carry an unforgiving truth and drive action among those who are adversely affected by racism and extraordinarily slanted governing policies.

America, do we really want to see Dixieland the way it’s perceived by racist people? It’s a sad song, the unofficial national anthem of the Confederacy during America’s horrific Civil War.
