Can you imagine any popular U.S. Black-owned gun stores or manufacturers branding their products with the former president, Barack Obama’s, name? No, the likelihood of that kind of advertisement strategy would be minimal. Unless, of course, the manufacturer’s intent was to propagate a repulsive message among those consumers who were targeted to receive it.
Not to mention, unintended consequences such as street violence, vigilantism, and further ethnic divisions can occur when a gun manufacturer allows itself to rain down ill-conceived product branding and advertisement schemes on consumers. There are many consumers who are just as animated, vindictive, elusive, and disturbingly creative in terms of intelligence gathering as Trump’s MAGA supporters. Therefore, gun manufacturers should always exercise discretion in how they advertise to prospective consumers, as one poor judgment could cause the spark that puts the country on a trajectory that it’s not willing to stomach.
In Trump’s case scenario, the whole intent is inherently problematic—whether the recipient of the ad viewed it as highly offensive because Trump was not an admirable human being and/or the ad was merely an unpatriotic gesture, particularly in that the latter was a modus operandi to rally Trump’s MAGA base using a cryptic advertisement that’s violent in nature. Moreover, in that the gun manufacturer is not aware of all consumers who idolize or worship Trump, it seems grossly irresponsible, remarkably offensive, and/or naive to send digital advertisements to consumers who may otherwise purchase the company’s product.
In closing, although the header image gives clues to who the manufacturer is, I won’t cite its name, as I don’t want to bolster an irresponsible and, apparently, loyalist brand like that. However, I will turn the digital advertisement over to organizations like the ADL, NAACP, and the SPLC to encourage their interest. Incidentally, I’d have zero confidence in the Trump Administration’s desire to discourage such advertisement behaviors largely due to the violence that’s been exhibited by its MAGA base as well as the kinds of loyalists that have filled Trump’s cabinet positions. Interestingly enough, I don’t believe such advertising behaviors would even be considered in a country like China. It’s only practiced and tolerated in environments where those advertisers feel safe enough to be tough guys.
