When our nation decided that a free press could coexist with free enterprise, it may have been one of the biggest blunders on its behalf. Considering the news industry’s inherent responsibility is to keep the public informed of important matters surrounding government and current events impacting the “necessities of life,” then allowing a profit motive to evolve and fester within the veins of that responsibility has only created corruption inside the industry involving a citizen’s rights to privacy, bribery, and vainglory, which has led to celebrity journalism and slanted news organized by dark forces hidden behind America’s “reins of power” [2] and capitalism. One only has to observe how the industry has consolidated itself over the last forty years to realize the authenticity via this point of view. Our liberty does depend on “freedom of the press,” but not how much money the industry can earn from exploiting the news.
