Do Silicon Valley and other segments of corporate America really expect us to believe that Americans are too dumb to conquer the fast-evolving world of technology? What’s really at play here? I’ll tell you what’s at play. It’s an enormous amount of wealth being hoarded at the tree’s crown and treetop. And I don’t have to say who the hoarders are. Even we ordinary Americans already know who often fits the profile.
There’s no dispute that the H-1B visa community provides the United States with enormous talent and technical capability, but at what cost? Are Americans’ academic qualifications, true diversity, and livelihoods being deprioritized for cheaper labor costs? Or is it an unconditional loyalty that corporations and “big tech” are obsessed with? For example, those highly skilled and imported laborers are expected to not only build and maintain Silicon Valley and American corporations’ software and computer programs but also to keep their mouths shut when those same programs are used to illegally target American citizens. The algorithms of software or computer programs that intrude into Americans’ privacy are a valid consumer concern. Likewise, hacking initiatives at the direction of corrupt government officials, corporate executives, managers, or supervisors to either illegally target and/or violate Americans’ privacy would be an even greater concern. The latter would be a form of weaponizing the H-1B visa community.
All things considered, Silicon Valley, various American corporations, and the U.S. government are not fond of having the next Edward Snowden hanging around monitoring their computer programs, and that may speak volumes about a relatively large aspect of the H-1B visa hiring disposition. Perhaps the unwritten rule in contracts for H-1B visa carriers reads a bit like this: ‘Do what we tell you to do, keep your mouth shut, or else it’s a fast plane ride back to the land of hardships, struggles, and poverty.'” It’s a disturbing likelihood, to say the least, but it can be a rude awakening for H-1B visa holders, especially for those skilled workers who have to confront a racist South Asian caste system upon reaching American shores. Incidentally, “India is the top country of birth for H-1B workers,” according to the Pew Research Center. See the article via the links provided below.
Needless to say, the H-1B visa program overwhelmingly relies on an employer’s job market, not a job seeker’s one. Hence the H-1B visa holders’ vulnerability to being compromised and/or exploited, notwithstanding their highly valued technological skill sets.
