Sports: Young Black Men Let’s Be Realistic

Perhaps the numbers in the video that follows are a bit antiquated, but Dr. Kunjufu’s message is a timeless one. “We need more Black male role models that will encourage our youth in math and science.” Black men have a strong presence in sports and entertainment but are not limited by those attributes alone. Let’s get behind our sons so that we can create the next Silas Adekunle of the world.

All things considered, it makes sense to conceive that, as opposed to owning too many shiny objects [i.e., jewelry, cars, boats, planes, etc.], learning programs like “The Hidden Genius Project” are where we ought to think about strategically investing our hard-earned dollars. Why so? Because the truth of the matter is that most young Black men won’t be superstars in the sports and entertainment industries. Using a finance metaphor, perhaps the cultural commitment of funding would be equivalent to an “alternative investment.”
