German soldiers nicknamed the New York National Guard’s 369th Infantry Regiment “Hollenkampfer,” which literally translates to “Hellfighters!” The Hellfighters were an all-Black regiment that earned the title for their fierce fighting maneuvers during the “Great War,” also known as “World War I.” Listen to their story by clicking here.
