We should never forget that African art and its origins play an integral role in defining who the African American people are. Particularly for any delineations of ancestral traditions passed down over generations, for any archaeological studies and findings that are integrated into art, as well as contemporary art that carries the African American experience forward. And besides, if Jean-Michel Basquiat’s skull art piece can command a whopping 110 million-dollar price tag, then who’s to say your little female soldier can’t grow up and become a famous painter and achieve the same?
