We should never forget that African art and its origins plays an integral role in defining who the African American people are; particularly, any delineations of ancient traditions passed down over generations, archaeological studies and findings that are integrated into art, as well as contemporary art that carries the African American experience forward. And besides, if Jean-Michel Basquiat’s piece can command a whopping 100-million-dollar price tag then who’s to say your little soldier can’t grow up as a painter and do the same.
