Not only did our ancestors endure horrific enslaved atrocities for merely thinking they’d live normal lives in an extraordinarily racist United States, but they also fought legal battles that were just as humiliating and horrific. One such example of those battles was the “Dred Scott case,” which drew attention to an egregious act of oppression where a historic Supreme Court ruling denied a Black man and his spouse their basic human rights to live free in a geographical area of the U.S. where slavery was actually illegal. African Americans, Blacks, and Americans alike can honor their sacrifices by choosing to pursue political activities and causes that will enable a better America for all its citizens. Particularly by enacting laws, changing laws, rooting out injustices, and creating environments of equality that’s universal in all of its effects.
