We may have reached a point in our American experiences wherein we are not forced by dire circumstances to work together, but I am firm in my belief that WE ARE ONE under circumstances that would otherwise compare our collective value to those who see themselves through a more formidable lens. “Black Men Listen.” “Rise to who you are.” We ought not exclude fellow Americans who understand our plight, yet we must understand our plight well enough not to exclude ourselves from each other by remaining focused on our own reality.
